Privacy Policy

Purpose

Stirling Language-Swap collects your data in order to keep a record of those individuals using its services. It allows you to participate in the Language-Swap initiative by identifying suitable language-learning conversation partners, and allows us to contact you in the event of any problems.

Legal Basis

Your data is being held on the basis of your consent. You may withdraw this consent at any time by deleting your profile on the Language-Swap website.

Third Parties

Your information will not be shared with any individuals or organisations outwith the University.

The external contractor responsible for website maintenance may access the data for technical support purposes. Access is regulated by legal contract covering data processing.

Security

Data will be stored securely on the University’s password-protected server, and access is strictly limited.

Retention

Data will be stored for as long as you choose to retain your personal profile on the Language-Swap website. You may delete your profile at any time. If your profile is not accessed for a period of six months consecutively, you will be contacted by email and informed that your profile will be deleted.

Your rights

You have the right to request to see a copy of the information we hold about you and to request corrections or deletions of the information that is no longer required. 

If you provide consent for us to use your personal data in the ways outline above you have the right to subsequently withdraw you consent. 

In some circumstance you may have the right to object to the processing of your personal data, to request it is erased where it is no longer required for the stated purposes, or that inaccurate information about you is corrected.  For more information about your rights see the Data Protection Policy.
